Beacon Street Park Inclusive Playground

Glenn Group first served the Town of Amherst by completing the pre-planning, accessible playground concept, and phased master plan for Beacon Street Park. Building on that original concept design, our team was subsequently awarded the Design-Build of the Inclusive and Accessible Playground, advancing the project through schematic refinement, design development, and construction integration. The design champions inclusive play through choice, not separation — a clear zoning strategy balances active play, nature-based exploration, and quiet rest areas while maintaining full accessibility throughout. Signature features include an accessible central play core with rainbow surfacing, a sensory play zone with interactive music and motion, centralized swing zones accommodating diverse users, and multi-level climbing structures with graduated difficulty, all supported by accessible seating, shade, and gathering spaces. Rooted in the character and identity of Amherst, the playground creates a space where accessibility, innovation, and play value are inseparable.
